Several years ago, Attorney Page, represented the estate of a young mother who was killed in a tractor-trailer accident. The young mother was survived by four children, ages 6, 5, 2, and three months old, at the time of her death. The defendant trucking company argued that the value of the mother’s life was not of great value because she was unmarried, lived in subsidized housing, was unemployed, had not completed high school, had her children by two different men, and was receiving welfare benefits at the time of her death. The case was settled the first day of trial for $4.25 million. Attorney Page structured the settlement by taking the cash up front and purchased annuities.
